MTLI
MTLI proposes using an adaptable carriage on almost every ordinary train to connect goods handling at stations with pedestrian-first delivery to shops, institutions and homes.
01 — The proposal
A carriage with two modes
The proposal uses ordinary passenger services, with no dedicated logistics trains. At busy times the adaptable carriage would be completely empty of logistics equipment and available as standing-room passenger space. Off peak, it would be closed to the public and staffed for goods handling. The switch between those modes is central to the concept.
From outer gateways to every station
Every station in the MTLI proposal has a goods role. A visible staff-only staging area at a platform end and a cargo lift connect the railway with the neighbourhood above.
Goods move through a place for people
The first version uses one standard passive MTLI crate, moved by a detachable electric walk-behind mover. Trained operators guide crates through podium streets and covered arcades, with pedestrians always taking priority. Crates mainly dock at visible staff-only doors serving shops and institutions, then carry returns and recyclables outward.
Residential parcels primarily use traditional lockers in tower lobbies. Neighbour delivery rounds provide an assisted option.
